Abstract
The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of couple

therapy training in reducing marital problems of couples in Islamshahr city. The present study

was a quasi-experimental, semi-experimental, pre-test-post-test intervention study with a

control group. The statistical population of this research consisted of couples who had been

married for less than 5 years and lived in Islamshahr city in 1401-1402. In this research, the

sampling was purposive and the research sample included 30 couples (60 people) who were

randomly assigned to two intervention and control groups. The tools used in this research

included the 54-question questionnaire of binary marital conflicts (1379) and the protocol of

Gutman couple therapy sessions. After sampling, all members of the sample answered the

questions of the mentioned questionnaire for the pre-test. Then, the intervention was carried

out based on the mentioned protocol for the experimental group in the form of 10 one-hour

training sessions. After that, both groups answered the questions of the same questionnaire for

the post-test. In this research, data analysis was done in the SPSS version 25 software

environment in a descriptive (mean, frequency and standard deviation) and inferential

(covariance analysis) way. The results indicated that Gutman couple therapy has a significant

effect on all the subscales of couples' marital conflicts. This means that the average marital

problems of the experimental group after the educational intervention has decreased compared to the control group in all subscales of marital problems.
