Abstract
The purpose of this research is to investigate the use of virtual social networks and its effect on the academic performance of high school students in Shahrekord city.

In terms of achieving the goal, the research method was of the applied type and in terms of the method of collecting information, it was of the survey type. The statistical population of the research included all students studying in secondary school in Shahrekord city in 1401. Using Cochran's sampling formula, 384 people were selected as a sample in a multi-stage cluster. To collect data, a researcher-made questionnaire was used, the validity of which was confirmed by experts and professors of the university, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.84. Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to analyze the data.

The research results showed that there is a negative and significant relationship between the amount of use of virtual social networks and academic performance. The relationship between the time of using virtual social networks and academic performance was also significant. The results of Friedman's ranking test showed that Instagram had the most and Facebook had the least effect on students' academic performance.

Training parents to limit the hours spent on social networks and how to use them should be prioritized in educational programs of officials. Training sessions should be held by the Education Department in the cities in order to introduce and inform parents about new technologies, especially the Internet and virtual social networks.
